While you can usually find them by retracing your steps or checking places you usually set them, it’s always possible that your keys are legitimately lost. If you have the tendency to lose your keys around the house or other places you visit often, you would probably benefit from the Toyota key finder app feature that is available with new Toyota models. The keyfinder is a low-power Bluetooth device that can be attacked to your keys. To use it, you need to download the Toyota Keyfinder app onto your mobile device. With the app, you can make the keyfinder give off a distinguishable sound, making it much easier to find.

How to get a new Toyota key
Getting a new key or Smart Key fob for your Toyota vehicle isn’t as simple as it sounds. This is because the key and Smart Key fob of your car features a transponder chip inside it that works to disable the engine immobilizer. The engine immobilizer is an anti-theft system designed to keep anyone from hotwiring and stealing your vehicle.
To get a new key for your vehicle, you first need to get your key code number. You can do this here at Don Jacobs Toyota, but first you need to present photo identification and proof of ownership of the car. We will also need your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) which can be found on your owner’s certificate or on the driver’s side doorjamb.
If your Toyota has an immobilizer system, then we will need to reprogram the computer in your car. We can do this using a scanner tool we have here at the dealership. This way, the code in your new key will work with your new key.
